This position is located in Point Loma and will include a combination of onsite and remote work.
The Ship Operations and Marine Technical Support (SOMTS) division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography supports world-class oceanographic research through the management of research vessels and marine technical services.
Under the general supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Fund Manager is responsible for managing the financial and administrative activities of complex extramural, contractual, and internal research projects. This role supports faculty, researchers, and department leadership by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university financial policies and regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
Post-Award Administration - Manage federal, state, and private research funds from award receipt to final closeout. Maintain internal tracking systems, generate financial reports, review expenditures for compliance, and provide budget analysis. Meet regularly with Principal Investigators (PIs) to discuss financial status and future spending.
Pre-Award Support - Assist with proposal preparation, including developing detailed budgets, ensuring compliance with funding agency guidelines, and coordinating submissions with PIs and central offices. Follow through on reporting requirements, no-cost extensions, and contract modifications.
Business Office Administration - Serve as a liaison for financial transactions related to procurement, disbursements, and travel. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with campus financial systems such as OFC Procurement and Concur.

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience/training.
Experience with research administration, including federal and non-federal grant compliance (e.g., OMB Uniform Guidance, NSF, ONR, DOD).
Strong financial analysis and budgeting skills, including the ability to audit expenditures and generate financial projections.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with faculty, staff, and administrative offices.
Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team framework.
Must be willing to work overtime as required to fulfill position responsibilities, particularly during proposal cycles and fiscal closing.
Must be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15
