As a key member of the Michigan Can team, the Millwright Technician is responsible for installing, assembling, and dismantling machinery, conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and dismantle machinery and equipment in support of production and plant wide maintenance/repair
  • Transport and locate machines and equipment according to floor plans or as directed
  • Assemble and operate machines or equipment from component parts including machine tools, lathes, grinders, mills, and hones
  • Use precision measuring devices to achieve extreme tolerances
  • Comply with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant
  • Create and interpret drawings or sketches of parts to be made or repaired
  • Receive tools and paperwork; establishes and maintains logbooks
  • Machine parts to precision requirements of tolerance and finish
  • Assist in inspection of tooling and operates most inspection equipment
  • Initiate, review, and follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for area of responsibility
  • Communicate with EHS or Plant Manager regarding environmental management activities
  • Recognize waste streams and minimizes waste generation; Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes
  • Perform incidental tasks, layout work and other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years’ job-related experience
  • Ability to apply independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard machining techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Prior experience reading and following complex instruction books and blueprints
  • Ability to work independently within parameters set by management.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to read and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Ability to weld Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminum
  • Previous experience with hazardous waste management.
  • Thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment.
  • Ability to work with basic math, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs

Working Conditions:

This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, chemicals; high noise levels; physical obstacles; high, narrow and confined areas. Employees are required to wear PPE including but not limited to appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
