St. Joseph's Hospital has been part of this growing community since 1934, caring for generations of patients of all ages. Extremely skilled and experienced physicians, including those with national and international reputations, cover more than 70 specialties—such as surgery, internal medicine, neurology, and cardiology. A new six-story tower with 90 private patient rooms features a covered drop-off entrance and convenient ground-floor registration for patients. The Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service was awarded to St. Joseph's/Candler for its broad-based efforts to improve the lives of the most vulnerable members of its community. The hospital also participates in the American Heart Association collaborative performance improvement program to improve adherence to evidence-based care of patients hospitalized with stroke, with both Candler and St. Joseph's achieving Gold Plus for Stroke. Case assignments include cardiac, general, ortho, neuro, vascular, and endo, with no OB coverage. Responsibilities include pre-anesthesia assessment, obtaining and/or verifying patient consent, discussing anesthetic options and risks with the patient, induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia, monitoring the patient's physiological condition, and performing clinical interventions as needed. Requirements include current license as a registered professional nurse, graduation from an accredited program of nurse anesthesia education, and certification or recertification by the AANA Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists. The position offers a close-knit and dependable anesthetist team, autonomy, excellent working relationships with anesthesiologists, and a variety of cases allowing skill development in complex issues without in-house call burdens. The location is Savannah, GA, a coastal town known for Southern hospitality, historic architecture, and nearby scenic beaches.
