Overview:

The Bioinformatics Scientist in this role will process, analyze, and interpret diverse omics data to support research and clinical efforts in cancer genomics. This position collaborates with research faculty, clinicians, other bioinformaticians, and research informatics staff to identify bioinformatic needs, develop solutions, and share analysis findings. The individual in this role will work on multiple projects under the cancer genomics umbrella, providing an opportunity to explore diverse omics data (whole exome, RNAseq, proteomics, long-read DNA and RNA, single-cell RNA and multiome, etc.) using various software tools and pipelines in local HPC cluster and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. This position is currently supported by research funding for 3 years, with a high likelihood of continued support beyond that.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Experience:

  • Experience or education in statistical or computational analysis required
  • Fluency in scripting and analysis with language such as R or Python required
  • Experience with the Linux command line required
  • Experience with sequencing data and technologies, sequence analysis tools and methods, bioinformatics data formats and public genomic databases preferred
  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) cluster and/or cloud computing preferred
  • Good computational practices (e.g. commenting, documentation, version control, projects on GitHub) and organizational skills preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate about biomedical research topics (oral and written) preferred

Responsibilities:
  • Perform supervised and independent scientific analysis utilizing expertise in analysis of omics data and knowledge of best practices
    Design and develop bioinformatics capabilities including data analysis pipelines, knowledgebases, user interfaces, algorithms and databases to support ongoing research projects
  • Collaborate with research faculty, clinicians, other bioinformaticians, and research informatics staff to identify bioinformatic needs and develop solutions
    Communicate results to internal and external audiences

Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or Biological Sciences and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training Demostrated skill and knowledge in specific requirements of position needed. or

Starting Pay:

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $31.31/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home:

This position is entirely remote or work-from-home. The person hired must live in the Kansas City metro area and may attend on-site meetings, as scheduled.
