Position Overview

The Workforce Development Coach is tasked with providing group and one-on-one Workforce Development and Financial Capability education and coaching. They are responsible for delivering an integrated service coaching model that incorporates career pathways support, enhancing job development skills and Financial Capability for every client. They will be responsible for developing business partnerships and coaching important sets of work, namely the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF) High School Partnerships.

The scope of the Coach’s role includes workshop facilitation, one-on-one coaching, and connecting clients to education, vocational training, employment opportunities, and referrals to partner organizations. Coach will regularly connect clients to financial services and products to best support them in reaching their wealth-building goals. The Coach is responsible for completing career and financial assessments, goal setting, and action plans with clients and providing at minimum quarterly follow-up. This position will work closely with the Workforce Development team, as well as with all other Asset Building programs and staff.

DCYF High School Partnerships

MEDA will coordinate the delivery of career development services in program models that already offer a variety of services that strengthen communities and support residents in achieving economic stability and general well-being. Many students require more than workforce services to achieve economic stability and life goals. Workforce services are critical to economic stability, but students and families may need help from additional education and supportive services to succeed. Through DCYF we seek to provide a range of integrated services to students at John O'Connell High School and their families to help them along the path to economic security and career growth. 

In addition to existing program offerings, DCYF High School Partnerships serves as a point of entry into the public workforce system and as a dedicated Employment and training liaison. 

Specifically, you will:

• Provide wrap-around support and related services to career exploration and assist job seekers in addressing and overcoming significant barriers to employment.
• Prepare students in building foundational skills and proficiency in core workplace competencies, including work preparedness skills.
• Connect students to employer(s)/employment opportunities and to approved vocational skills training providers/training opportunities.
• Ensure full integration/bundling of financial and workforce coaching for clients.
• Be responsible for consistent baseline and follow-up financial assessments for every client centered on debt, income, savings, and credit.
• Provide soft-skill and life-skill development classes to high school students. 
• Form strategic partnerships and referrals with local organizations.

Job Responsibilities

• Facilitate Workforce, Financial Capability, Social Emotional Intelligence, and other Asset Building workshops.
• Provide one-on-one Workforce and Financial Coaching - including intake, assessments, goal setting, action planning, and follow-up.
• Coach students through job readiness, resume and cover letter building, interview prep, internship/apprenticeship coaching, job search through placement.
• Connect students with relevant education, training programs, hiring events, and potential employers to increase career pathways opportunities in a timely manner.
• Provide Workforce and Financial Coaching directly to clients and navigate through potential job barriers such as language, immigration status, justice system involvement, limited technology access, and basic computer literacy, etc.
• Coach students on financial education components - including budgeting, debt, income, savings, credit, and safe banking.
• Work closely with other Workforce and Asset Building team members on shared initiatives.
• Ensure all data and reports are accurate, thorough, and timely to ensure compliance and evaluate the success of the program, maintaining an accurate record of the client’s progress.
• Work closely with other Workforce and Asset Building partners to keep the community up-to-date and connected to all available services.
• Participate in special projects as needed within MEDA and Asset Building Programs Department.
• Participate in other duties as assigned.
• This position will require a background check with DOJ and FBI

Qualifications

• Bilingual Spanish and English required.
• BA or equivalent degree or equivalent experience required.
• 1-2 years of workforce development coaching experience preferred.
• Experience delivering financial education and coaching preferred.
• Knowledge of San Francisco’s workforce network is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge and proficient use of software technology that assists in tracking program results, including but not limited to MS Office, Salesforce, and Google Suite.
• Demonstrated organization and planning skills to effectively work in a non-structured environment and adapt to changes in priorities.
• Passion for serving underserved populations, particularly low-income individuals, immigrants, and English learners.
• HUD Certification or ability to pass the HUD Certified Housing Counselor Exam within 90 days of hire date.
• This position will require a background check.
