Job Summary

The Web and Data Engineer is a full-time position that supports high-impact research and training initiatives in the College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP), with 75% dedicated to the Jackson Heart Study Graduate Training and Education Center (JHS GTEC) and 25% supporting strategic innovation initiatives under the CNHP, including the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and the Gulf South Center for Community Engaged Health Research and Innovation (Gulf South Center). This role provides critical leadership in web development, data infrastructure, program evaluation, and digital systems integration to enhance research, training, communication, and data-driven decision-making.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Design, develop, and maintain a dynamic, accessible program website for GTEC; manage digital content and integrate social media to support communication, recruitment, dissemination, and engagement.
  2. Ensure compliance with accessibility, security, and optimization standards; provide technical support and implement system enhancements.
  3. Develop and maintain infrastructure for managing large, diverse datasets (e.g., surveys, EHRs, administrative records), ensuring quality, security, interoperability, and reproducibility.
  4. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and scholars on analysis pipelines, reporting, and data governance to support research and evaluation needs.
  5. Design and manage tools for program evaluation, including survey programming, longitudinal scholar tracking, and social network analyses.
  6. Prepare datasets, dashboards, visualizations, and reports to inform decision-making, continuous improvement, and federal reporting compliance.
  7. Provide web, data, and analytics support for CNHP initiatives led by the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and the Gulf South Center.
  8. Maintain systems that facilitate stakeholder engagement, research dissemination, community-based evaluation, and tracking of research productivity.
  9. Contribute to key projects such as congressionally directed spending, donor initiatives, interdisciplinary translational research, and Gulf South health evaluation efforts.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned to advance the research and scholarly mission of CNHP.
Minimum Qualifications

An accredited degree in computer science, data science, information systems, or a related field, with three (3) or more years of professional experience in web development, database management, or applied data analysis. Candidates with degrees in other fields may also be considered if they possess equivalent technical skills and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency with front-end and back-end web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal). Ability to design and maintain accessible, user-centered websites that support engagement, dissemination, and program visibility.
  • Experience using SQL, Python, R, or similar programming tools for data management, processing, and analysis. Ability to develop dashboards, visualizations, and reports to support evaluation, reporting, and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data integration workflows, data quality assurance, version control (e.g., Git), and secure data management practices across diverse sources such as surveys, EHRs, and administrative datasets.
  • Familiarity with federal data privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA), accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), and cybersecurity best practices. Commitment to ensuring compliant, secure, and ethically responsible data and web systems.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community partners in support of mission-driven research initiatives. Strategic thinker with a solutions-oriented mindset and adaptability to evolving program needs.
Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with survey platforms such as REDCap or Qualtrics, social network analysis tools and principles, and supporting academic research, training programs, or community-academic initiatives.
