Job Description

Job Description: A respected and employee-owned engineering firm is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their growing water infrastructure team in Charlotte, NC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil or environmental engineering, technical project delivery, and client relationship management. In this role, you'll lead the planning, design, and execution of municipal water and wastewater projects-guiding efforts from concept through construction while supporting both business development and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

You'll play a pivotal role in fostering and expanding strong client relationships, serving as a key point of contact on significant accounts. Your work will contribute to business development, including leading proposal efforts and delivering presentations to secure new projects. You'll also help shape project scopes, estimate timelines and resources, and pursue new opportunities with both existing and potential clients.

In this role, you'll bring high-level expertise to complex challenges, providing technical leadership and project management for water infrastructure projects-ranging from water distribution and wastewater systems to treatment facilities. Your work will primarily support public sector clients, with a strong focus on local and regional needs.

You'll be expected to navigate critical negotiations, address sensitive or complex issues, and provide strategic direction with sound judgment. Your deep knowledge of engineering standards, design practices, and construction processes will be key in leading innovative solutions on projects that push boundaries.

As a leader, you'll oversee multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring all project phases are executed smoothly-from team communication and client engagement to budget tracking and collections. You'll also mentor junior staff, participate in professional development, and stay actively connected within the industry.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; professional registration in North Carolina or ability to obtain it through reciprocity.

  • 7-15 years of experience in water/wastewater treatment design and municipal utility infrastructure.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and familiarity with common engineering design tools.

  • Strong skills in technical writing, public speaking, and leading major business development initiatives.

  • Demonstrated expertise in the water/wastewater field, with excellent leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.

  • Solid understanding of consulting operations, including finance, IT, and HR functions.

  • Involvement in professional or public activities related to the industry is highly encouraged.

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving and criminal record.

Benefits:

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): All employees are owners and benefit directly from the firm's success.

  • Competitive Compensation Package: Includes paid holidays, bereavement, parental, medical, and military leave.

  • Career Progression: Mentoring, training, and growth opportunities to help you build your career with confidence.

  • Professional Support: Tuition reimbursement, early career programs, online learning, and more.

  • Impactful Work: See the tangible impact your projects have on the communities you serve.

  • Company Culture: Collaborate with supportive, talented peers who are there to help solve problems, celebrate wins, and encourage each other.
