Job Description

Silicon Valley Finance Group (SVFG) offers the opportunity to work with a variety of clients, industries, and platforms. We are looking for a VP Finance to join our elite team who will work with and learn from this close-knit, high-functioning group of financial heroes helping our venture-backed client companies thrive!

Like many other companies, we are currently working 100% remote but look forward to a day when we can work together safely over a cup of coffee. Candidates must be based in the Bay Area, and be able to attend in-person company meetings, client meetings and eventually work in an office on the Peninsula.

JOB SUMMARY

The VP Finance’s primary role is to manage the client relationship and the assigned client service team. Clients look upon the VP Finance to be a member of their executive team. The VP of Finance typically plays an active role in client’s executive staff meetings and their BOD meetings as their strategic financial advisor. Within SVFG, the VP Finance plays an active role in strategy discussions as the account manager to SVFG clients and leader of SVFG service teams.

The VP Finance’s responsibilities include quality control to verify that all general accounting and financial planning and analysis processes are in accordance with SVFG best practices. Responsibilities also include oversight and review of:

  • budget to actual reports and analysis
  • margin analysis
  • equity and related option tracking
  • policies and procedures to ensure appropriate levels of financial controls and adherence to GAAP
  • implementation of new GAAP guidance
  • multi-year financial models to support due diligence for equity and debt fund raises and for exits

The VP of Finance is also responsible for coordination:

  • with any outside audit firms on financial audits
  • with Human Resources Manager in areas that require HR expertise.
  • with external CPA firm filing of annual income tax returns.

The VP of Finance also identifies and negotiates competitive debt facility terms for the client, oversees the development of annual budgets, rolling forecasts, cash projections, and management reporting based on understanding the key business and financial levers of the client and interaction with the client executive team.

Despite being tightly integrated into each client’s business, the SVFG VP Finance is primarily a member of the SVFG team, so will maintain in-depth knowledge of the services and capabilities that SVFG provides and be able to proactively identify service opportunities that provide value to their clients. They are also responsible for forecasting and proactively managing staffing needs on their clients to meet the service needs and expectations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

  • 15+ years’ experience, including 8+ years people-management experience and 2-3 years consulting experience. 3+ years public accounting experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively: within a functional team, across departmental functions and as part of an executive management team.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience in analyzing business performance to plan
  • Experience in developing multi-year financial plans to support due diligence and 409A valuations.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, company consolidations, internal controls and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated success in fast paced start up environment as well as experience in mid-size and public companies.
  • Proficiency in all MS Office programs, QuickBooks and Intacct, NetSuite, or other mid-tier systems.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, CPA license a plus.

The salary range for this role is $185 – $215K base. In addition, we offer a profit sharing bonus. We also offer excellent benefits, a career path for professional growth, and the opportunity to work with cool people, vendors and clients.
