Position Overview

Manage strategic state and local advocacy efforts on behalf of the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) and member companies. Identify key state legislative priorities and develop and implement government affairs strategies to advance industry positions.

What You'll Do

  • Identify key state legislative priorities and direct multistate legislative campaigns to advance PCPC's government affairs agenda.
  • Represent PCPC before state and local elected officials including in person and virtual legislative meetings, testifying before relevant committees, and outreach to stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with allied groups and organizations to form strong coalitions in support of state legislative goals.
  • Maintain regular contact with member company executives on state legislative matters and actively work to build consensus on legislative issues among the State Steering Committee.
  • Oversee the development of reports and updates in the state legislative arena.
  • Analyze legislation and lead efforts with member companies to develop positions on key issues.
  • Manage and direct in-state contract consultants to develop and execute government affairs strategy in 13 key states.
  • Review committee agendas, minutes, and other documents.
  • Coordinate with internal staff members to ensure alignment and multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Develop state political action committee outreach plan.
  • Handle other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of state lobbying experience in a trade association (personal care products experience preferred).
  • Strong public speaking skills to present to large and small member audiences.
  • Excellent writing skills to author testimony and communicate with members.
  • Demonstrated experience managing advocacy campaigns and state corporate political contributions.
  • Extensive knowledge of state and local government decision-making process.
  • Self-starter with keen attention to detail.
  • Experience working with inter-governmental organizations and managing consultants in multiple locations.
  • Sound judgment and confidentiality, strategic analytical skills, creative thinking, and a commitment to ethical business practices.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.
  • Flexibility for up to 50% travel, sometimes with short notice.

This is a hybrid position. Candidates must reside in the Washington, DC area with the ability to work in the office two days each week (when not travelling).
