Location: Canton, Ohio

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Additional hours may be needed to support training initiatives and projects.

Position Overview:

The Training Manager will take a proactive, hands-on approach to lead, develop, and sustain employee training programs across our manufacturing operations. This role lies within the Human Resources department, working closely with EHS, Operations, and Union leadership to ensure training compliance, workforce readiness, and ongoing employee development in an industrial, unionized environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Design & Development: Design and deliver comprehensive training programs for the organization’s workforce. Develop structured onboarding and orientation programs for new hires. Create and update job-specific training matrices to define required competencies. Align training curriculum with job roles, union contracts, and organizational goals.
  • Compliance & Recordkeeping: Ensure all required training meets regulatory and job-specific standards. Maintain training records for compliance audits, inspections, and internal use. Track and report on training completion rates, effectiveness, and KPI alignment. Manage and maintain Learning Management System (LMS) data and reporting tools.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work directly with operations groups to create, deliver, and reinforce applicable job-specific training content. Integrate hazard-specific and job-specific safety instruction into onboarding and refresher training. Oversee job-specific training documentation completion, tracking, and measurements.
  • Evaluation & Continuous Improvement: Assess training program effectiveness through feedback, observations, and performance data. Update training content based on incident trends, audit findings, or operational changes. Recommend improvements or new programs to address skill gaps or compliance risks.
  • Vendor, System, & Grant Management: Manage relationships with external trainers and LMS providers. Coordinate grant-funded training opportunities with local workforce boards or state programs. Lead initiatives related to apprenticeships, upskilling, or third-party certifications.
  • Communication & Facilitation: Deliver in-person and virtual training sessions effectively to a diverse workforce. Support supervisors and leads in delivering day-to-day, on-the-job training. Collaborate across the organization to ensure consistency in training messaging and delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Education, Communications, Organizational Development, or related field preferred. Extensive experience in training within a unionized manufacturing environment may substitute for formal education.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial training role required; union experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven success managing large-scale training programs, including compliance-based and skills development initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal. Spanish fluency would be a plus.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a climate-variance manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with training processes and tools is an advantage.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
