Looking for chance to make a meaningful impact? Our small, rural school district in Arctic Alaska is seeking a seasoned Temporary HR Specialist to support our Human Resources department during a high-volume operational period. This is an ideal opportunity for a retired or semiretired HR—or even an independent HR consultant—professional who’s ready for something different.
This role is focused on providing skilled, practical support to an HR team that is dedicated but currently operating with limited capacity. Your experience and organization will help bring structure, clarity, and momentum to day-to-day processes.
Who You Are:
· A highly experienced HR professional (7–10+ years in the field)
· A self-starter who can take direction but also identify what needs to be done and follow through
· Comfortable stepping into an existing system and contributing right away
· Skilled in HR compliance, onboarding paperwork, personnel files, and general HR documentation
· Familiar with Frontline HRIS software (or quick to learn new platforms)
· Ideally, you have experience in education systems or school district operations
· Open to short-term travel to a remote, rural community
· Supportive, professional, and dependable
What You'll Do:
· Organize and update HR files and employee records
· Ensure compliance with state and federal HR regulations (I9s, hiring documentation, etc.)
· Support onboarding and offboarding processes
· Assist with data entry and system maintenance in Frontline
· Collaborate with staff and provide day-to-day operational HR support
· Draft and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for key HR functions to help build consistency and long-term sustainability within the department
Schedule Options:
Fulltime, 2-month placement in the district (with travel/housing covered) OR 3 weeks onsite / 3 weeks off rotation—great for someone easing into retirement or looking for flexibility
Why This Role Matters:
This role is a chance to offer meaningful, hands-on support to a district that truly needs it. Your contributions will bring order, efficiency, and relief to a hardworking team—and leave a lasting impact through improved systems and documentation.
