As the Sustainability Program Manager , you'll be at the forefront of creating and implementing cutting-edge sustainability initiatives that not only shape our organization but also positively influence our clients' environmental strategies. Your expertise will guide projects from start to finish, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, budget, and sustainability.

In this role, you'll be more than just a manager—you'll be a visionary leader. You'll assess and enhance existing sustainability programs, lead strategic planning workshops, and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure compliance and successful project execution. You'll also play a vital role in business development, fostering client relationships, and representing our company as a thought leader in sustainability.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Sustainability Management

  • Provide sustainability and environmental advice and project guidance.
  • Assess existing client sustainability and environmental programs and identify areas of opportunity and innovation.
  • Develop building, campus, and/or organization level sustainability and net zero carbon strategies or solutions.
  • Serve as a technical resource to clients and provide advice on program direction related to climate, carbon, energy, water, waste, or health and wellness.
  • Facilitate sustainability workshops and client strategic planning efforts, providing subject-matter expertise to advance projects and programs.
  • Implement and manage sustainability projects and programs.
  • Develop annual report documents, communication pieces, and other internal and external communications related to sustainability programs and projects.
  • Develop tools, databases, and other tracking mechanisms to support sustainability program implementation and assessment.

Project Management

  • Responsible for planning, design, budget, schedule, forecast, reporting and turnover of sustainability and construction projects.
  • Define and oversee all projects that support program goals.
  • Manage project risk, schedule, and budget throughout the project.
  • Contribute to and deliver on the development of program processes and tools that facilitate consistency and quality execution across the program.
  • Guide program design development and construction schedules through the applicable funding requirements and government processes at Federal, State and Local levels.
  • Participate in procurement strategies and delivery of FF&E or other segments of the client’s budget program-wide to ensure sustainability is accounted for.
  • Outline, analyze, and develop program objectives and strategies for delivery.
  • Participate in design and specification development, warranty strategies, and other construction documents.
  • Participate in developing the applicable sustainability requirements, reviews, and/or building certification preparations to meet the project/client requirements.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Accounting, and Project Coordinators on contract negotiation/development.
  • Lead and participate in sustainability/construction project meetings serving as liaison between the owner, general contractor, designer, and sustainability consultant (if applicable)

Team Management

Sustainability Task Force

  • Provide clear plan and direction for the Sustainability Task Force (STF).
  • Lead the Sustainability Task Force and engage with the Executive Sponsor to get ET approval on annual budget and proposed initiatives.
  • Establish an annual budget and manage to the budget throughout the year.
  • Develop a resourcing plan for the STF.

Sustainability Services

  • Develop and mentor staff as appropriate or assigned.
  • Develop and manage a resourcing plan.
  • Directly supervise and review performance of employees or consultants if applicable or as assigned.
  • Facilitate involvement of the project’s key stakeholders at appropriate levels and times.
  • Facilitate and reconcile differences using conflict resolution techniques.
  • Monitor performance of self, individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Motivate, develop and direct teams.

Client Development and Management/Business Development

  • Develop and execute sustainability Business Plan/market strategies in collaboration with VP of marketing and approval and buy-in from ET.
  • Establish a sustainability group at OAC, providing job descriptions and career development pathways for members of the group.
  • Build new and maintain existing relationships with sustainability client/partners/stakeholders resulting in new project opportunities, leading pursuits and winning projects.
  • Lead in developing and executing go-to-market strategy for OAC sustainability.
  • Work with Marketing to develop outreach collateral for use in future pursuits.
  • Participate and be a thought leader in sustainability for OAC industry and professional associations and events as the OAC representative for sustainability

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years' project, construction, or sustainability management experience or equivalent.
  • 3 years' experience in management of professional staff and internal teams.
  • Professional accreditation or certification required. Examples include: PMP, LEED, AIA, PE, GCCM, DBIA
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with high proficiency with Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer and Excel.
  • Experience with Construction Software including Bluebeam.
  • Experience with built environment sustainability certifications required. Examples include: LEED, ILFI, Fitwel, WELL, Salmon-Safe, Green Roads, Passive House.
  • Experience with carbon accounting and LCA software required. Examples include: EC3, OneClick LCA, TALLY, Athena.
  • Must be able to pass motor vehicle record check and comply with OAC's motor vehicle policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Project experience preferred.
  • Experience in project management of multiple, overlapping, and coordinated projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience building, maintaining, and expanding client relationships.
  • Proven effective project management of multiple, overlapping, coordinated projects.
  • Effective use Building Information Modeling (BIM).
