Job Title: Surgical Tech CWR

Location: Edison, NJ 08818

Duration: 12 Weeks

Job Summary: The Surgical Tech I is responsible for cleaning and handling instruments following standard policies while maintaining updated records.

Essential Job Functions:

• Follows policy in standardization of set-ups and utilization of surgeon preference and assumes responsibility for the care and proper handling of instruments by neatly organizing all instrumentation before returning to the decontamination room and returning all clean supplies to designated areas.
• Maintains count of sponges, needles, and instruments, and administers and labels medications according to established policy.
• Handles specimens according to O.R. Policy and Procedures.
• Controls contamination and provides for decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation of instruments and equipment.
• Removes used equipment and properly disposes of contaminated needles and syringes at the end of procedures.
• Participates in team conferences to plan care and evaluate the effectiveness of patient care, assisting the circulator in revising the plan of care.
• Maintains ST skills proficiency checklist up to date by checking off equipment and cases, circulating or scrubbing when rotated through specialty areas.
• Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 400 lbs., and stands for a minimum length of shift.
• Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
• Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Required Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or appropriate training program.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure: Professional certification by the AST.

Languages: English (Speak, Read, Write)

Hours Per Week: 40.00
Hours Per Day: 8.00
Days Per Week: 5.00

Schedule Notes:

• 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, and either Wednesday or Thursday.
• Holidays as needed. No weekends.
• At least 4 On Call shifts per month as needed, or if unable to do call, one weekend day a month.
• At least 2 years of experience as a Surgical Tech in an Acute Care facility required.
• BLS (AHA) required.
• Experience in at least TWO of the following specialties: Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Robotic, Endovascular Surgery.
• No float requirements.
• Ratio: One Tech per Case.
• Must be highly reliable and available to work all days other than those pre-disclosed prior to offer.
• Must not have alternative jobs that would interfere with the schedule being a priority.
