JOB LOCATION: Phoenix, AZ

PAY RANGE: $25 - $27/hour (DOE)

REPORTING TO: Safety Manager

RESPONSIBLE TO: N/A

JOB TYPE: Full-Time

SUMMARY OF MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Safety Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees within an organization. Their main responsibilities encompass a range of tasks aimed at identifying, mitigating, and preventing workplace hazards and promoting a culture of safety. Primarily, they are tasked with developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. This involves conducting thorough risk assessments, hazard identification, and regular workplace inspections to maintain compliance and minimize risks. Additionally, Safety Coordinators organize and facilitate safety training programs to educate employees on safety protocols and procedures, fostering a proactive approach to safety awareness.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Conducting safety training sessions for employees
  • Serving as a liaison between employees and management regarding safety concerns.
  • Developing Safety Policies and Procedures: Drafting, implementing, and updating safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Training and Education: Organizing and conducting safety training programs for employees to ensure they are aware of safety protocols, procedures, and regulations.
  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: Identifying potential safety hazards and conducting risk assessments in the workplace to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Inspections and Audits: Conducting regular inspections and audits of the workplace to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. This may involve documenting incidents, conducting interviews, and analyzing data.
  • Safety Meetings: Organizing and leading safety meetings to discuss safety concerns, initiatives, and best practices with employees and management.
  • Safety Equipment and Gear: Ensuring that appropriate safety equipment and gear are available and utilized correctly by employees, such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety signage.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Developing and implementing emergency response plans for various scenarios, including fires, chemical spills, medical emergencies, etc.
  • Safety Reporting and Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, training sessions, and compliance documentation.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Staying up-to-date with relevant safety regulations and standards and ensuring the organization's compliance with them.
  • Safety Communication: Facilitating communication between management, employees, and regulatory agencies regarding safety matters.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for improvement in safety processes, procedures, and systems and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Behavioral Safety Programs: Implementing behavioral safety programs to promote a culture of safety and encourage safe behaviors among employees.
  • Contractor Safety Management: Overseeing safety requirements for contractors and subcontractors working on-site to ensure they comply with safety standards and regulations.
  • Safety Culture Promotion: Promoting a positive safety culture within the organization by encouraging employee involvement, recognition of safety achievements, and fostering open communication about safety concerns.
Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • OSHA 10 and 30 certifications
  • 2+ years experience working as a safety representative in a construction setting
  • Knowledge of Safety Regulations: Understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards relevant to the industry.
  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: Ability to assess workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey safety information and policies to employees and management.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to pay close attention to detail to identify potential safety hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in construction, plumbing, or a related field is preferred.
  • OSHA 500

  • First Aid/CPR
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • 4+ years experience working as a safety representative in a construction setting
