Job Description

Position Title: Director of Security

Reports To: C.O.O

Supervises: Security Manager, Supervisor, Security Officer, Dispatcher, Risk Management

Summary of Position

Security Director is responsible for the overall security of operations, coordinating security efforts to properly safeguard assets within the Resort and Travel Center facilities, safeguard employees in the workplace and customers in the Resort and Travel Center and for ensuring all security policies and procedures are followed.

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and are subject to change at management's discretion:
  • Inspects premises to determine security needs;
  • Plans and coordinates all security activities;
  • Supervises and directs activities of Assistant Security Director, Director of Security Surveillance, and Casino Apache Travel Center Security Supervisor;
  • Provides guidance and advice when necessary;
  • Directs training for security operators and surveillance operators concerning outside federal agencies;
  • Safeguard assets of the Mescalero Apache Tribe under the Director's responsibility;
  • Inspects and evaluates security activities on all shifts to ensure compliance with Security Department policies and procedures;
  • Develops and enforces safety policies regarding fire extinguishers and evacuation plans in all areas of the Resort/Travel Center;
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with local law enforcement agencies;
  • Perform background checks on key employees where security of the Resort/Travel Center could be affected;
  • Provides overall protection from, and elimination of, anything that may tend to jeopardize the welfare and security of Mescalero Apache Tribal assets, properties, guests/customers and employees;
  • Establishes procedures for, and conducts special investigations and surveillance for internal/external fraud investigations;
  • Responsible for setting up escorts for movement of assets;
  • Adheres to all regulatory, departmental, and Resort policies and procedures, and to the Casino Internal Structure;
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a gaming license;
  1. Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages IMGR&C Security and Travel Center Security. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Mescalero Apache Tribal and Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing issues and resolving conflicts.
  1. Education and/or Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or five years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Law enforcement experience strongly preferred. Mescalero Apache Tribal preference/Indian preference applies; multi- cultural experience preferred.

While performing the duties of this position, the team member is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear. Must be able to use hand held communications devices. The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The team member must be able to stand for several hours.
