Job Description
Seeking a 2D Game Animator for the End of the World . Snackbar Studio is hiring a full-time, contract 2D animator familiar with Unity to lead the animations on our funded, indie title.
Who we are:
We are Snackbar Studio, an all-remote, indie studio passionate about beautiful, narrative games (and also snacks–you gotta have snacks). We’re searching for a talented 2D animator to join our team of industry veterans and bring our gameplay to life. If you’re skilled, experienced, and eager to make an impact on a small, creative team, we want to hear from you!
We’ve just secured funding for our first title – The SnackBar at the End of the World: a top-down, chill-action RPG for PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. Players take the role of a chef in a magical, alternate-reality 1960s Italy where they forage, hunt, cook, and scheme to get their aunt out of prison (non-public, investor trailer here).
What we’re looking for:
Proven experience:
You’ve worked on multiple released 2D games, focusing on gameplay animations (e.g. attacks, movements, environmental interactions).
Expertise in gameplay animation:
You have a strong background in stylized keyframe animation and a proven track record of delivering exaggerated gameplay character animations.
Sprite animation expertise:
You can work with sprite-based animations (not spline or rig-based), using the 2D animation software of your choice.
Adaptability to style:
You’re skilled at aligning your animations with the established art style of the game.
Versatility:
You’re capable of animating a variety of elements, including cartoon-style human characters, fantastical creatures, liquid effects, and UI transitions.
Unity experience:
You’re proficient in importing and managing your animations within Unity.
Rapid iteration:
You can create quick animation iterations for the main character and enemies, collaborating closely with the game designer to test behaviors and refine animations swiftly.
End-to-end responsibility:
You’ll clean up your own animations and ensure they’re properly imported into Unity as sprites.
Passion for gaming:
You have a deep love for games and a basic understanding of game design principles, player psychology, and user experience fundamentals.
Relevant experience in both gameplay and cinematic animation.
What we offer:
Fully remote work:
Work from anywhere.
Competitive, contract pay:
We offer a competitive rate (€65,000-€80,000 per year depending on experience, paid monthly). This is a contract position/rate; you’lll be responsible for your own taxes.
Flexible scheduling:
You can organize your work hours to fit your needs, with regular meetings (EU timezone working hours) with the game designer and art director to ensure deadlines are met. Candidates are expected to put in ~40 hours/week, with some slower and more demanding periods.
Paid test:
Promising applicants will be asked to complete a paid animation test. We don’t believe in asking artists (or anyone) to work for free.
How to apply:
Send us an email to rand@snackbarstudio.com with a link to your website reel/portfolio and a bit about yourself and your match to the role/studio.
We’re eager to see your work and work with you! Snackbar Studio
