Role Overview
As a Production Supervisor at Talis Historic Restoration, you would be responsible for managing day-to-day operations on historic restoration projects in the shop to ensure projects are completed on schedule within budget and in compliance with preservation standards. This includes managing shop crews, coordinating materials and schedules, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other safety standards, and maintaining quality workmanship reflective of the historical significance of the structures involved.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise daily operations at restoration shop, ensuring timelines, budgets, and safety protocols are met.
Train and mentor crew members in specialized restoration techniques.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, historical accuracy, client expectations and preservation guidelines.
Assist in scheduling and coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
Perform quality control checks to verify craftsmanship aligns with historic standards.
Maintain progress documentation, incident reports, and communicate effectively with the Operating Manager and Foreman.
Communicate project status and issues to the Operating Manager and Foreman.
All Staff Meeting
All-staff meetings are company-wide and led by the CEO, but the Production Supervisor plays a supportive and participatory role. Responsibilities include:
Production Updates
Prepare and present concise, high-level updates on production.
Highlight progress toward milestones, deadlines, and deliverables.
Share key achievements, roadblocks, or changes in scope.
Clarify dependencies or requests from other departments.
Support leadership messaging with relevant project context.
Weekly Employee Meetings
Individual weekly meetings with direct reports are operational and tactical, focused on driving project execution. As the lead facilitator, the Production Supervisor is responsible for:
1. Meeting Planning & Tracking
Set clear objectives for weekly meetings.
Prioritize discussion topics based on urgency and impact.
Review current project progress, update or confirm deadlines and next steps.
Ensure each team member reports on what is completed and what’s in progress.
2. Task and Risk Management
Assign or reassign tasks as needed to maintain momentum.
Ensure clarity around individual responsibilities and expectations.
Identify any risks, bottlenecks, or issues affecting completion.
Collaborate with the team to generate solutions or escalate when needed.
3. Communication & Support
Capture meeting notes, action items, and decisions. Ensure proper documentation
Follow up on assigned actions between meetings.
Encourage team collaboration and ownership.
Recognize team and individual contributions.
Address morale, workload distribution, or communication gaps.
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience in construction supervision, preferably in historic preservation or specialty trades.
Strong knowledge of traditional building techniques and materials.
Excellent leadership, communication, time management and organizational skills.
Ability to read blueprints and interpret architectural drawings.
Familiarity with preservation regulations and standards.
OSHA certification or safety training preferred.
Hands-on experience in trades such as carpentry is often a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
