General Definition of Work
Performs protective service work supervising offenders and ensuring compliance with court ordered probation, preparing and submitting reports, maintaining confidential records and files, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Assistant Chief Probation Officer and Chief Probation Officer.

Essential Functions
Supervises offenders to ensure compliance with all court ordered obligations including community service, restitution payment, drug and alcohol screens, anger management classes, substance abuse education, shoplifting prevention program, continuing education classes, behavioral health needs, etc.
Visit probationers at home, work or elsewhere to ensure compliance with court orders.
Arrest and transport probation violators in a safe and legal manner.
Maintains confidential records; prepares reports as required by the State to include status reports, violation reports, requests for early release, show cause, capias and letters of completion of supervision.
Acts as court liaison/representative for court mandates services; attends and testifies in court; completes intake paperwork on new referrals.
Participates in various required meetings and agency functions as needed.
Maintains current working knowledge required for the position at the department, Federal, State and local level.
Responds to inquiries from court personnel, judges, elected officials, County employees and the general public via telephone and other methods of communication.
Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of the principles, objectives, and techniques of the criminal justice and community corrections system; general knowledge of the techniques and means of interviewing and investigating; general knowledge of casework methods and control practices; ability to conduct interviews and investigations and analyze attitudes and behavior problems objectively; ability to interpret code sections and other legislation; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with court personnel, mental health providers, County offices, community service agencies, probationers and the general public.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with coursework in criminal justice, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of Georgia State Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Law Enforcement Training or Basic Probation or Parole certification.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

No previous history of any POST disciplinary action(s).
Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.
Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).
