Salary
$72,192.94 - $90,900.76 Annually (plus applicable incentives)

General Description
The Albany Police Department is seeking to fill three police officer positions due to retirements and establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.
Application Process
The selection process includes the following steps:

Candidates invited for further steps will be notified.
Virtual Speed Interview
Initial five-minute interviews conducted virtually.
Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT)
Includes running, jumping, crawling, and other physical challenges.
Applicants may submit valid ORPAT scores (within the last 12 months).
Written Evaluation
Administered through the National Testing Network (NTN).
Oral Board Interview
In-person panel interview.
Captain/Chief's Interview
Final department interview.
Pre-Employment Screening
Background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical examination.
Salary Incentives
Education:
6% for Bachelor's Degree
3% for Associate's Degree
Certifications:
8% for DPSST Advanced Certification
4% for DPSST Intermediate Certification
Special Assignments:
5% for Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, or Detective
Language Proficiency:
5% for Advanced Spanish
3% for Intermediate Spanish

Essential Functions
Patrol assigned areas to enforce laws, preserve peace, and respond to emergencies.
Conduct investigations, collect evidence, and prepare cases for court.
Provide community-oriented policing services, including crime prevention and public assistance.
Maintain communication with other agencies and provide mutual aid as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent. A degree in criminal justice or related field is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles and procedures.
Skilled in operating law enforcement tools and communicating effectively.
Special Requirements
Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment.
Must be a U.S. citizen or meet federal requirements for non-citizens.
Valid driver's license required.
Successful completion of a background check, medical evaluation, and psychological screening.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work Conditions
Exposure to outdoor elements, hazardous conditions, and high-stress situations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks such as running, climbing, and dragging objects.
Tools and Equipment Used
Includes police vehicles, radios, firearms, computers, and other law enforcement tools.
Safety Equipment
Use of protective gear, including vests, gloves, and hearing protection, is required.
