Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION
The primary function of the Pediatric LPN is to deliver direct nursing care to pediatric patients in accordance with provider orders, clinic protocols, and Louisiana scope of practice, while maintaining accurate documentation, ensuring patient safety, and supporting the clinical team in the delivery of high- quality outpatient pediatric services.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide age-appropriate nursing care to pediatric patients
  • Obtain and document vital signs, growth measurements, and developmental data
  • Prepare patients for exams and procedures
  • Administer medications and immunizations per provider orders and scope of practice
  • Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis, etc.)
  • Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and report changes promptly
  • Accurately document patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Educate parents and caregivers on medications, immunizations, follow-up care, and treatment plans
  • Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and infection-control standards
  • Participate in care coordination, referrals, and follow-up calls
  • Support clinic flow by rooming patients efficiently and assisting with patient throughput
  • Follow pediatric safety standards, including vaccine handling and storage
  • Assist with prior authorizations
  • Adheres to state nursing regulations and scope of practice
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation
  • Demonstrates professionalism, compassion, and cultural sensitivity when working with children and families
  • Complies with clinic policies, procedures, and quality standards
  • Maintains required licensure, certifications (BLS/CPR), and ongoing competencies
  • Promotes patient safety, infection prevention, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Communicates effectively with providers, nurses, MAs, and administrative staff
  • Reports incidents, errors, or safety concerns according to clinic policy
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 1-year pediatric experience in clinical setting – preferred but not required
  • Must hold a current LPN license registered in the State of Louisiana - required
  • BLS/CPR certification upon hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred or willingness to obtain within specific timeframe
  • Experience administering immunizations and medications under provider orders and within Louisiana LPN scope of practice
  • Knowledge of Louisiana immunization schedules , vaccine storage, and handling requirements
  • Ability to obtain and document pediatric vital signs, growth parameters, and developmental data
  • Strong communication skills with children, parents, and caregivers
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced pediatric clinic environment
