Job Title: Nurse Intern
Job Classification: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Graduation from NTCC RN program is mandatory within 6 months or employment in the Nurse Intern position is considered null and void.
Job Summary
The Nurse Intern assists in the unit under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. The internship will help the Nurse Intern acquire nursing skills and attain working knowledge in the clinical setting.
Essentials Functions
-Provides care within scope of current LVN and/or CNA license under the direction and supervision of RN when appropriate to the age of the population served.
-Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of human growth and development.
-Provides proper personal hygiene and care to all patients.
-Accurately measures and records vital signs.
-Accurately measures and records weights.
-Accurately measures and records intake and output.
-Recognizes abnormal findings and reports such findings appropriately.
-Demonstrates knowledge of proper transfer techniques.
-Consistently provides preventative skincare measures to all patients.
-Feeds patients, encourages adequate nutrition and monitor diets.
-Properly collects specimens as directed.
-Utilizes special beds appropriately.
-Applies heat and cold therapy/thermal regulations.
-Performs approved procedures appropriately under direct supervision.
-Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives and behavior is consistent with TRMC "One Titus" culture.
-Adheres to and follows the TRMC Behavior and Absenteeism Policy.
-Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
-Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
-Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
-One year in medical setting is preferred.
Education
-Active LVN or CNA license with the state of Texas required.
-Nursing student entering 4th semester of RN transition program required.
-Must be in good standing with NTCC Nursing program and provide letters of recommendation from NTCC leadership.
-Must complete all mandatory competencies, trainings, and certification classes within 6 months after graduation from RN Nursing program. These include Basic Life Support, ACLS and TNCC for specific areas.
-Must be willing to cross train in all In Patient units. These include Med Surg Telemetry, Ortho Rehab, and Behavioral Health Unit
-Must be willing to work and train in other areas as needed in staffing crisis situations.
