3 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants About The Department Department BSD PED - Neonatology - Advent About The Department The Section of Neonatology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago provides specialized care for newborns with complex diseases, seamless access to specialty services, and surgical approaches for newborns and infants. Our neonatologists and advanced practice providers work on the University of Chicago campus and in community hospitals in Chicago suburbs and Indiana, offering families excellent neonatal services from a multidisciplinary team known for innovation and family-focused care. Job Summary The Advanced Practice Provider provides direct patient care in collaboration with physicians and the healthcare team, managing and referring health problems as needed. This position will work at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Bolingbrook and Hinsdale. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care and formulate care plans with the healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the Credentials Committee. Communicate follow-up plans with healthcare providers. Prescribe and evaluate pharmacological therapies per protocol. Attend high and low risk deliveries as needed. Initiate CPR and perform stabilization techniques in various settings. Stabilize and transport patients as needed. Understand current professional and legal practice trends. Identify educational needs of families and assist with teaching. Ensure systems and resources support care standards. Participate in self and peer evaluations to improve quality. Develop, review, and evaluate policies and procedures. Engage in quality improvement monitoring. Provide in-service and outreach education programs. Serve as a resource for clinical skills on the unit. Participate in clinical research projects. Serve as a preceptor to APP students. Evaluate goals and outcomes considering safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Develop diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patient care. Respond to adverse drug reactions, especially in vulnerable populations. Coordinate APP training and professional development activities. Perform other related work as needed. Education: College or university degree from an accredited institution. Work Experience: Minimum 2 years relevant experience. Certifications: Illinois licensure/registration, eligibility for privileges and credentialing through the Medical Staff Office. Preferred Qualifications Advanced nursing degree and completion of NNP training. 2 years clinical experience in a related area. Licenses and Certifications: NCC certification as a neonatal nurse practitioner, Illinois RN license, and ability to obtain an advanced practice nurse license, DEA, and mid-level practitioner-controlled substance license. Preferred Competencies Proficiency in resuscitation, intubation, line placement, EPIC, and computer use. Excellent clinical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to conduct examinations, work under pressure, and use independent judgment. Working Conditions Clinical setting with exposure to blood and infectious materials. High-stress environment.
