Position Summary
The Medical Office Assistant is responsible for the check in/out of patient accounts, ensuring all patient information—including insurance and demographics—is verified and up to date. This role includes preparing accounts for billing, estimating and communicating patient financial liability. The is expected to demonstrate knowledge of all check in and check out functions and provide coverage for other areas when needed.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
Uses computer systems effectively for all front office and EMR functions.
Understands legal and medical aspects of patient check in/out.
Informs patients of estimated financial responsibility during check-in.
Complies with HIPAA and accesses only the minimum necessary information.
Tracks scheduled add-ons and processes timely check ins/outs and collections.
Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility accurately.
Processes Medicare Secondary Payer (MSPQ) information and reviews as needed.
Covers additional office duties as required.
Complies with facility standards for in-service training, attendance, punctuality, and dress code.
Performs additional duties as requested by the Office Manager or Medical Director

Minimum Qualifications
Licensure/Certification
N/A
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience
Minimum of 1 year experience in a patient service setting..
Knowledge & Skills
Familiarity with third-party payers, including HMO/PPO plans.
Basic understanding of medical terminology.
Strong customer service and computer skills.
Equipment
Proficiency with computer systems.
