POSITION SUMMARY

This position assists in the performance of landscape maintenance activities, with a specific focus on weed control using manual methods and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


Grounds Maintenance
  • Performs various grounds maintenance activities related to weed removal by mechanical and manual methods as directed; includes extended periods of high activity manual weeding while bending, squatting, and sitting
  • Performs various grounds maintenance activities related to the optimization of plants, trees, and landscape arrangements as directed; activities may include pruning, plant removal or relocation, new plantings, the application of natural treatments, soil amendments, and mulch
  • Performs activities on a cyclical maintenance schedule of daily landscaping zones; works diligently and conscientiously to complete all assigned duties within each day's landscaping zone
Facilities Maintenance & Repair
  • Performs various maintenance activities under the direct or indirect guidance of a Facilities & Operations lead worker or Supervisor
  • May support or assist maintenance and repair related to the following trades: custodial, grounds, roofing, plumbing, locks, doors, windows, automotive, grounds equipment, furniture repairs, carpentry, painting - especially in response to seasonal demands

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
-AND-
One year of demonstrated work experience in landscape maintenance

Core Competencies:
  • Demonstrates an ability to work both independently, and in a small team environment, toward the completion of tasks to a described outcome and quality level
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using integrated pest management principals in the performance of landscape maintenance activities

SCHEDULE & MODALITY
This position is not eligible for remote/hybrid work.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment of the A4 band and grade
  • Please note: The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study. No employee will lose base pay because of this study, however, classification titles and pay grades may change. The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Summer of 2024.
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
