Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Plant Engineer is responsible for achieving the highest level of reliability for plant equipment through committed support for the Sonoco Performance System (SPS), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and strong ownership of the Maintenance Excellence process within their plant. Responsibilities include ensuring employee safety by leading a comprehensive Sonoco safety process, leading plant compliance with environmental and safety regulations, implementing and maintaining a reliability-centered maintenance process to drive machine uptime, improve OEE, and lower operations costs. The role provides department leadership to maintain high standards of plant condition and equipment performance, ensures maintenance personnel are skilled and qualified, scopes and executes capital projects, manages department spend, and identifies technical improvements. The position requires applying reliability tools to determine root causes of equipment failures and downtime, identifying countermeasures to improve reliability, and performing as a key member of the plant leadership team to drive improvements and meet objectives. The role supports continuous improvement activities and aligns departmental goals with plant, regional, and corporate goals. Skills required include strong understanding of OSHA requirements, leadership and team development abilities, excellent organization and communication skills, proficiency in Root Cause Analysis techniques, process orientation, basic mechanical and electrical knowledge, cost management skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or related field, 3+ years leading a plant maintenance department or 5+ years supervisory manufacturing experience, with preferred experience in CMMS and TPM or Reliability fields.
