The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL), a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC),   has been developing innovative technologies and solutions for cutting-edge DoD and intelligence programs for over six decades.
SDL’s internship program provides an exciting opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to get involved with state-of-the art technologies in space-, airborne-, and ground-based systems. With the support of Engineers and mentors, Interns are able to work on professional-level assignments that complement their academic studies. The program also includes training workshops, networking opportunities, and a variety of summer events and activities. Interns will be paid a competitive monthly stipend and will be tasked with varying duties based on current projects, needed support, and development phase.

The Strategic and Military Space Division is looking for exceptional Student Engineers for a summer internship. Interns will be tasked with varying duties based on current projects, needed support, and the development phase of internal capabilities. Work can involve software and hardware development for mission analysis, spacecraft design, control systems, and integrated functional test in a lab setting.

The Strategic & Military Space Division delivers advanced satellite and sensor systems that support the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. Our division is a key component of national security, providing technological solutions and expert mission support. This position has the potential of continued employment or transition to student/full-time employment requiring security clearance eligibility.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assists in the design, build, and test of small satellite GN&C system
• Performs mission analysis
• Writes and executes test plans and procedures
• Documents analysis results
• Creates presentations of analysis

Requirements:

• Experience or understanding of at least one of the following areas and how they are applied: Attitude Dynamics, Astrodynamics, Controls Theory, Optimal Estimation, Numerical Optimization
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and/or C/C++
• Experience with team collaborative tools (Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, etc.)
• Ability to work hands on assembling and testing hardware
• Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to work well in a team with other students and professionals 
• Strong initiative and ability to see the job through
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US person

Education:

• Must be pursuing a degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or a related field
• Senior or graduate student
• 3.0 GPA minimum is required
