Job Description

Capital Paving & Construction is seeking a GPS Modeling and Survey Specialist to support civil construction projects in the Springfield, MO area. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in GPS-based site layout, machine control modeling, and earthwork estimation. The successful candidate will work closely with both field crews and office staff to ensure accurate modeling, surveying, and data-driven decision-making throughout project lifecycles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop high-quality 3D models for machine control across multiple equipment types and site conditions
• Prepare detailed earthwork estimation reports and models to support accurate bidding and pre-construction planning
• Review, manipulate, and convert CAD file formats from a variety of sources
• Set up and operate total stations to guide horizontal and vertical alignment of paving and grading equipment
• Translate construction plans into practical, field-ready 3D models
• Operate and maintain field surveying equipment including Total Stations, GPS Rovers, and Auto Levels
• Support jobsite data collection, stakeout, and layout activities
• Perform additional duties related to GPS setup, modeling, and survey as assigned

Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of GPS machine control systems (e.g., Trimble, Topcon) and their integration with heavy equipment
• Experience with CAD takeoff software and interpreting construction plans
• Understanding of construction surveying techniques and calculations
• Proficiency with field-to-office software workflows
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in civil construction, surveying, or modeling
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Willingness to work overtime, nights, or weekends as needed
• Willingness to travel and work out of town when required
• Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol screening, and background check
