Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Course in Scottsdale, Arizona is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
In this role, you will be responsible for executing all aspects of the Departmental Agronomy plan and supervising the related maintenance operations; keeps accurate and detailed records of maintenance operations, chemical/fertilizer applications, and agronomic measurements; monitors budget performance to control expenses; supervises the care of the golf course maintenance facility to be clean, organized and safe; maintains all components of the irrigation system and monitors the use of allocated water supply; coordinates projects and course improvements; creates a safe, positive and productive work environment for team members; supervises the maintenance and care of all assigned equipment; performs related work as required.
Responsibilities:
• Plans and supervises all golf course maintenance activities: P1 (priority) tasks including mowing greens, changing cups, course set up and raking bunkers; P2 tasks including mowing fairways, tees and rough and all agronomic practices including fertilization, chemical applications, vertical mowing, and topdressing.
• Communicates daily operations plan to the Assistant Golf Course Superintendents and directs them to implement all operations with the best use of personnel and equipment in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Participates in the development of the annual Agronomy Plan and implements the plan according to the Agronomy Calendar. Monitors turf conditions and consults with the Director of Agronomy and Agronomists to make the necessary adjustments to the plan and/or calendar.
• Keeps accurate account of all maintenance operations and records the information into the departmental computer software (Onlink Golf). Measures environmental and playing conditions on putting greens using the proper tools (POGO, TRU-FIRM, STIMPMETER and clipping yields) and uses the information to determine fertility and agronomic needs.
• Manages the operation of the irrigation system, determine water requirements based on field observations and weather data, and programs central computer to apply necessary irrigation. Monitor the performance of the pump station and initiate repairs or maintenance to maintain continuous service. Make daily field observations to identify necessary sprinkler adjustments and repairs. Supervises irrigators to ensure that water is applied only when necessary.
• Monitors budget performance and make adjustments to utilize all financial resources available to meet golf course quality standards. Reviews month-end financial statements and forecast future financial needs.
• Manage the operation of the equipment fleet; assigns equipment to trained operators, monitors proper operation, use, and safety on the field. Ensures the proper cleaning and storage according to established procedures and coordinates the necessary repair and preventive maintenance with the mechanics.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe workplace directs staff to clean daily; stores equipment and materials in the proper location and monitors the facility for safety according to federal, state, company, and departmental guidelines.
• Ensure effective teammate and public relations. Conducts all team member training including safety training, monitors job performance, uniform compliance, and Personal Protective Equipment. Establishes effective communications between teammates and the Talent & Culture (HR). Displays a positive attitude with club members, external industry personnel, and professional peers.
• Pursues professional development and mentors the professional development of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendents. Includes participation in educational industry seminars, the training, on-the-job training in operations management and turfgrass culture. as well as administrative duties of record keeping, electronic communications and planning/scheduling.
• Participates in the procurement, hiring, discipline, promoting and discharging of teammates under guidelines established by the club.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven years combined experience as a turf manager, landscaper, or Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
A minimum turf management, horticulture degree, or equivalent experience is required.
Certified pesticide applicator in the state of Arizona. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
