Description


General Accounting and Collaboration
  • Manage all aspects of the general ledger.
  • Supervise general accounting, accounts payable, grants accounting, payroll administration, and reconciliation functions, offering troubleshooting support as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Grantmaking and Capacity Building team on expense management to support the grants management process.
  • Support Advancement with grant proposal budgets and reports.
  • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting for incoming grants; ensuring accurate and consistent booking of expenditures as well as compliance to funder requirements
  • Manage and track incoming grants; partner with the programs and fundraising teams to address any actual to budget fluctuations
  • Assist the Sr. Director, Finance & Operations with the annual budgeting process.
  • Prepare expense reports and lead monthly expense analyses for each team and the Foundation overall.
  • Direct team in preparing all tax returns, including W-9s and 1099s.
  • Manage the worker's compensation audit and related regulatory needs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for all regulatory and compliance matters associated with the Foundation's payroll.
Audit Management
  • Lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and the Audit Committee.
  • Support team in the preparation of various audit schedules.
Compliance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal policies, controls, processes, and procedures to creates operational efficiencies and comply with GAAP standards.
  • In partnership with colleagues across all teams, review leases, contracts, legal agreements, and other such documents to ensure our compliance, financial obligations, reporting requirements, and consistency with anticipated business terms.
Team Leadership
  • Contribute to the professional development of direct reports by clarifying roles and responsibilities and supporting their training needs.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Provide periodic communications across and training for staff to support compliance with the use of financial and budgeting systems and responds effectively to staff inquiries.
Other
  • Stay current on applicable accounting, tax, and other regulatory developments for tax-exempt organizations, adapting policies and practices accordingly.
  • Provide assistance to our financial advisors in the fulfillment of capital calls for alternative investments as part of our endowment or program-related investments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years related accounting work experience; nonprofit experience preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a management role.
  • Associate's degree or higher in accounting or finance.
  • Strong experience managing accounting and financial reporting under GAAP with a strong preference for prior tax-exempt experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bonus if familiar with Financial Edge or Financial Edge NXT.
  • Technologically savvy with the proven ability to anticipate organizational needs before they become urgent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to listen well and positively influence others when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment as well as the highest level of integrity, professionalism, and ethics.
  • Proven track record of evaluating risks and implementing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Excellence in project management, priority setting, and problem solving.
  • Ability to translate financial concepts simply and effectively with those who may who may not have finance backgrounds.
