About Us
We are a remote-based service specializing in helping Canadians navigate uncontested divorces, located in the US. In addition to our divorce typing and filing service, we manage a commercial property in Canada and operate a mini-storage business.
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced bookkeeper to join our team. This role involves a range of financial responsibilities, administrative tasks, and support for our divorce service.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping (approximately 50% of your time):
- Maintain accurate financial records for both Canadian and US entities using Xero.
- Handle basic financial tasks such as journal entries, payables, and receivables.
- Process payroll for Canadian employees using Wagepoint and for US employees using Gusto.
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Perform month-end close procedures, reconciling accounts and ensuring accuracy.
- Handle complex accounting transactions like depreciation, accruals, and deferrals.
- Manage tax payments and filings, including payroll taxes, corporate taxes, and GST (Canada).
Administrative Support (approximately 25% of your time):
- Organize and manage tenant leases, payments, and communication for our commercial property in Canada.
- Collaborate with our part-time property manager to ensure smooth operations.
- Handle various administrative tasks as needed, including invoicing through Stripe.
Divorce Service Support (approximately 25% of your time):
- Prepare invoices for clients using Stripe.
- Assist with document preparation and related tasks (no prior experience required).
Qualifications
- Senior Bookkeeping Experience: Proven track record of handling full-cycle bookkeeping, including financial statement preparation, month-end close, and payroll.
- Software Proficiency: Strong experience with Xero, and familiarity with Trello, Slack, and Stripe.
- Detail-Oriented: Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
- Excellent Communication: Ability to clearly communicate with clients, tenants, property manager, and team members.
- Self-Starter: Comfortable working independently and proactively managing tasks.
- Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.
- Tech-Savvy: Quick learner who can adapt to new software and tools.
- Tax Knowledge: Understanding of Canadian and US tax regulations, particularly those related to payroll and corporate taxes.
Job Type: Full-time, Remote
Pay: $19.00 - $20.50 per hour (Negotiable based on experience)
