Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Director to lead and oversee the development, implementation, and management of our EHS programs across all of our real estate development and management projects in the New York area. This critical leadership position will be responsible for ensuring that all operations and projects comply with environmental health and safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies, while fostering a culture of safety across the organization. The EHS Director will be based in New York City and will work closely with various internal departments, project teams, and external stakeholders to mitigate risks, promote sustainability, and ensure the well-being of employees, contractors, and communities. Key Responsibilities: EHS Program Development and Management : Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental health and safety programs across all phases of real estate development and property management. Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and NYC-specific environmental and safety laws. Lead audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions. Risk Assessment and Mitigation : Conduct regular risk assessments and identify opportunities for improvement in safety protocols and environmental practices. Develop and implement strategies to minimize risks and reduce incidents on job sites and within managed properties. Training and Education : Develop and lead ongoing training programs for employees, contractors, and vendors to ensure understanding and adherence to EHS regulations and company policies. Incident Investigation and Reporting : Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, or environmental violations, ensuring that proper documentation is maintained. Develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Sustainability Initiatives : Support the company’s sustainability goals by integrating green building practices, energy efficiency programs, and waste reduction strategies into development and management activities. Leadership and Collaboration : Serve as the EHS subject matter expert for cross-functional teams, providing guidance and advice on safety and environmental matters during design, construction, and ongoing management phases. Reporting and Documentation : Maintain accurate records of all safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and regulatory reports. Prepare and present periodic EHS performance reports to senior leadership. Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate with external regulatory bodies, consultants, and third-party vendors as necessary to ensure compliance and resolve any EHS-related concerns. Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience within a competitive range of $125,000 - $150,000 annually. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in Environmental Health and Safety management, preferably within real estate development, construction, or property management. In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NYC DEP, and other relevant environmental and safety regulations. Strong understanding of sustainability practices, green building certifications (e.g., LEED), and environmental risk management. Proven track record of developing and executing effective safety programs and achieving compliance across multiple projects and sites. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a keen attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization. Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
