We provide marine environmental science and maritime educational and career programming for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth ages 12-18. We offer a suite of programs to middle and high school students to increase their understanding of local marine ecosystems, build and deepen their relationship to water, and explore high-demand maritime careers in our region. We use a culturally responsive lens to deliver programs, helping youth to overcome generational and personal trauma related to water while building environmental stewardship. In addition to our youth programs, we provide consulting to the maritime industry directly to create more diverse work environments, taking steps to build the equitable, accessible maritime industry where the youth we serve will thrive. Sea Potential works from a justice-centered framework which requires an intersectional lens and encourages reciprocal relationships with all aspects of community. The Role: Until recently, Sea Potential has mostly been focused on two separate maritime paths: BIPOC youth programs and corporate consulting. We’re seeking a Marketing Manager for an important role in our small team to spearhead uniting these efforts into an exciting new venture. Our ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial person with a breadth of skills – project management, marketing, community outreach, and business development – to build something impactful from the ground up. This person thrives in a startup environment, balances teamwork with independent drive, and aligns with our mission. The following is a list of responsibilities for this role; however, it is not exhaustive, and additional tasks may be assigned as needed. Entrepreneur in Residence Responsibilities: Marketing: Create content, manage social media platforms Responsible for developing and posting content on a consistent schedule Compile organization’s updates as well as community partner opportunities into a succinct and well-designed newsletter Research and write blog posts on various topics related to industry Community outreach: Networking, partnering, and engaging with individuals and organizations Build trust and foster long-term relationships through consistent and respectful engagement Support partners in mutually beneficial opportunities Attend events and gatherings of community and industry partners Project management: Work backwards from a vision, create a roadmap, and manage the timeline, while maintaining alignment with Sea Potential’s values Facilitate ideation and planning sessions for assigned projects Ability to turn ideas into action steps Executing tasks efficiently while delegating effectively to team members when additional support is needed to ensure project success Builder: Passionate about growth, able to move at startup pace, and resourceful Business Development: Build/maintain partnerships and perform sales Outreach to potential clients, including follow-up Spearheading collaboration opportunities Relationship management – keeping partners engaged and aware Operations: light administrative support Scheduling Management of small budgets Other duties as assigned as appropriate for your level of position Required Skills and Experience: 3+ years of experience in related fields such as marketing, project or program management, business development, administration Excellent verbal and written communication skills Entrepreneurial – likes to build something new and is comfortable with ambiguity Passionate about the Sea Potential vision and values Strong decision-making skills, exercising sound judgment and critical thinking to make informed, timely decisions that align with company goals. Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with diverse stakeholders, fostering partnerships that advance organizational goals through networking, collaboration, and community engagement. Strong commitment to equity, with a demonstrated track record in integrating DEI principles into project development and community outreach.
