Civil Engineer Intern. DESCRIPTION: As a quality systems engineer intern you will inspect and test our products to ensure conformance with PCI standards and design specifications that are detailed on the pour sheet. This position is critical to ensuring the quality and safety of our products. As an integral Wells team member, you will become a passionate problem solver and work on projects that transform communities. Enhance your education with hands-on experience. Bolster your classroom knowledge at a one-of-a-kind engineering internship. You'll have the opportunity to learn about the Precast and Construction world from the ground up, with guidance from tenured industry experts.
THROUGH THIS UNIQUE EXPERIENCE YOU WILL:
- Shadow Quality Control (QC) tech at the plant
- Learn to perform physical test on concrete in the lab
- Get familiar with entering pre/post pour in Concrete Vision (CV), an internal production database
- Check forms during pre-pour
- Start to get familiar with mix designs, finishes, NCR's, and metrics
- Work proficiently with mix designs and finishes
- Pour samples
- Enter and use NCR/metrics to work on root cause and continuous improvement
- Conduct site visits when problems arise and determine root cause, then report to operations and help develop new processes, and procedures
- Work to develop new metrics to help with lowering NCR where needed
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Pursuing a Civil Engineer Bachelor's Degree; with Engineering-Structural focus, structural analysis and design course work is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for typing, filing, and using office equipment.
- Visual acuity and ability to read small print.
- Hearing acuity and ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to lift and move office supplies and equipment.
- Mobility and ability to move around the office as needed
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Moderate to high risk of exposure to unusual elements.
- Moderate to high risk of safety precautions.
- Moderate to high exposure to production environment.
- Wet, hot, humid, and wintry conditions (weather related) (plant specific)
- Ability to work outside year-round (plant specific)
