This position requires independent and sometimes challenging but rewarding work for the nurse who wishes to hone her skills in a specialized field. Specialized training will be required and funded by the hospital to ensure the candidate is well prepared to begin their career as a Endoscope Nurse. Job Description Nursing Responsibilities: Manage Endoscopy Services: * Order, maintain, clean, troubleshoot, facilitate repairs of endoscopes and equipment. Stocking of room, ordering of supplies and equipment * Set-up of software and endoscope pre-procedure; cleaning, disinfecting, and ensuring proper charges post-procedure * Learn and become efficient in performing endoscopic procedures. * Coordinate with anesthesia, radiology, +/- other services regarding timing and participation for procedures. * +/- 1 nurse appointment per day. * Gather supplies, assist in, and charge for any other procedures for internal medicine (i.e. bone marrow aspirates, endotracheal washes) * Sedate patients as needed for radiology, ultrasound of IM patients. * Monitor IM patient medication refill email and facilitate prescription renewals. Various duties as needed for IM services: * Assist with training new nurses. * Prescription refills for outpatients if needed. * Submit requests for radiology, anesthesia, consultations (neurology, cardiology, ophthalmology) and endoscopy when time allows. * Make sure charges are complete and submitted to the business office. * If your service is slow, you may be assigned to help in the medicine treatment room or with other high maintenance medicine cases. This will be under the direction of the Director of Nursing after consultation with the Internal Medicine Service. * Contribute to the Ryan Hospital Nursing Holiday Schedule as assigned by the Director of Nursing. Qualifications: * Must be a Certified Veterinary Technician. * Minimum 3 years of experience in Veterinary Medicine. * Prior endoscopy experience not required but preferred. * This Nurse will be required to attend an endoscopy training course paid for by the service. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to multi-task while paying close attention to detail. * Thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding work environment. * Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. * Excellent organizational skills are essential.
