Position Summary We are seeking a proactive and experienced Director of Security to lead our efforts in ensuring the safety and security of our residents, staff, properties, and operations. The Director of Security is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive security programs. This role requires a strong understanding of security assessments, security protocols, risk management, security technology, emergency preparedness, and community engagement. This position reports directly to the Chief Real Estate Officer.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive security plan for the organization.
- Conduct regular property assessments to identify potential security vulnerabilities.
- Manage security vendors and 3rd party contracts; coordinate the deployment of security contractors as part of a comprehensive security plan.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local law enforcement agencies and other security leadership working groups.
- Manage incident reports and investigations in a timely and professional manner.
- Access and assess surveillance footage of security incidents.
- Develop and conduct resident safety and security education programs.
- Stay informed of industry best practices and emerging security technologies.
- Working in coordination with Aeon leadership, assess security spend and ensure optimal resource allocation.
- Collaborate with property management, maintenance teams and IT staff to address security concerns.
- Respond to calls for assistance from Aeon staff for emergency assistance, including at Aeon offices or property sites.
- Create proactive, strategic plans to address security issues at properties with security challenges or concerns.
- Develop and implement policies and programs that reduce security risks, and create a safe and secure environment for staff, residents, and visitors.
- Enhance and put into action emergency preparedness plans and procedures.
Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge - At least seven years of security or law enforcement experience, including at least four years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Significant relevant training and demonstrated accomplishments closely related to this work is required. Training may include but is not limited to Security Management, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, etc.
- Proven ability to develop and implement security programs.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of implementing and maintaining effective physical security measures.
- Must possess the ability to calm tense situations and prevent escalation. De-escalation training preferred.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant safety and security regulations.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Be flexible in duties and work hours.
- Capacity to use technology - including Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, and security camera viewing software.
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of security technology systems - including security cameras, access control systems, key fob systems, panic alarms, etc.
- Ability to engage in interpersonal communication that is culturally responsive, ensuring consideration for differing needs and expectations.

- Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance and regular access to a reliable vehicle is required.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, bend and kneel for extended periods of time.
- Ability to complete daily tours between properties including but not limited to inspecting grounds, common areas, hallways, stairwells, and apartment homes.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to reach above and below the shoulders.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp, twist and pull.
- Ability to withstand external weather conditions such as working outside in the rain, cold, heat or other adverse weather.
- Ability to quickly respond to sights and sounds that may pose a threat to persons or property.
Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications with a range of $105,000-$125,000 annually. Work Hours and Location This full-time position offers mostly Monday-Friday, daytime hours with a typical schedule of 8:30am-5pm. However, due to the nature of the position and the inspections, evaluations and corrective action needs of the role, weekend and evening availability will be required from time to time. This is an in-person position and will office mostly out of Aeon's Central Office in the North Loop of Minneapolis, MN with work in the field as needed. This position may have the opportunity for occasional remote work, but due to the regular in-person needs, this position is only open to current Minnesota residents or candidates willing to relocate prior to a start date with Aeon.
