The Director of Research and Prospect Management reports to the Deputy Director of Development, Individual Giving and is responsible for high-level analysis of the constituent prospect pool, strategic prospect development, and creating and implementing policies and procedures to support a robust prospect pipeline. Leveraging prospect data, capacity ratings, and predictive modeling, the Director will analyze and synthesize data into clear and compelling presentations that drive strategic planning for gift officers in support of the Museum's current and planned fundraising campaigns. The position directly oversees a proactive research staff and is responsible for coordinating all research requests from within the department and from Museum leadership, developing methods to improve prospect data integrity and evaluating and selecting research resources. This role works closely with the Manager of Development Services to administer efficient prospect management systems, reports and processes, and ensure appropriate data protocols are in place.

Specifically, you will:

  • Collaborate with the Research Analyst, senior members of the Development fundraising staff and Development Administration staff to craft strategy and implement plans with regard to prospect identification, qualification, assignment, and solicitation.
  • Prioritize requests from within the department and from Museum leadership.
  • Conduct varying levels of biographical and financial prospect research.
  • Screen and analyze data to assess wealth, including capacity and inclination ratings and construct matrices to support fundraisers, strategies, and decision-making.
  • Participate in prospect strategy and special project meetings with key staff.
  • Track progress of prospects by supporting moves management and progress toward fundraising project goals through evaluation and reporting mechanisms.
  • Provide recommendations about the use of prospect research tools in increasing the donor base and raising revenue.
  • Evaluate departmental use of prospect module of fundraising database, The Raiser's Edge, and make recommendations to increase alignment with best practices and improve reporting capabilities. Develop and supervise prospect data clean-up projects as necessary.
  • Coordinate research initiatives related to special solicitations, events, and database projects as assigned.
  • Lead different types of "best practices" training sessions for key staff, as needed, and implement accordingly.
  • Coordinate work of outside consultants, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your background and experience include:
  • Minimum of five years experience developing, designing and delivering prospect research, metrics reporting, and data analysis in an advancement/development work environment.
  • Expertise with prospect research methodology and practice, including interpreting wealth indicators and synthesizing financial, technical and trade materials;
  • Ideal candidate will have strong data analytics experience;
  • Expert-level experience with subscription-based online search engines including Lexis/Nexis, iWave, and Wealth Engine
  • Excellent analytical, logical, conceptual and problem solving abilities, and capable of prioritizing and managing multiple projects.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Process and detail-oriented.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency using Raiser's Edge, or other similar fundraising databases.
  • Diplomatic, collaborative, and committed to professional ethics.
  • Demonstrated adherence to confidentiality.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area.

Position and Compensation Details
  • The salary for this position is $79,400.
  • This position is Full-Time, Exempt and 35 hours per week.
  • This position reports to Deputy Director of Development, Individual Giving
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
