What you will be doing:

The Associate Attorney will perform a wide variety of functions to support the Sheehan Law Office’s practice. The qualified candidate will prepare and consult with clients on a variety of matters, including estate planning, probate, and real estate law. They will be responsible for maintaining transactional, litigation, and court-supervised caseloads, as well as, upholding and protecting the interests of our clients and their families. The Associate Attorney will provide excellent client service with attention, responsiveness, and commitment to understanding our clients’ end objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Court appearances
  • Research, financing, closing, negotiation, and disposition of residential and commercial real estate acquisitions
  • Draft and negotiate real estate transactions, including leases and amendments
  • Guiding clients through the probate process in Travis and Williamson Counties for both dependent and independent administrations
  • Understanding of all aspects of guardianships and the ability to assist clients through the process
  • Make court appearances in probate and guardianship matters as well as the ability to argue motions in court
  • Handle accountings in probate and guardianship matters
  • Experience in civil litigation, including experience in drafting pleadings, motion practice, written discovery, depositions and other facets of the litigation process
  • Excellent reading, writing and advocacy skills
  • Consult with clients on distribution of assets, estate taxes, gift tax, and other related legal issues
  • Provide consistent legal guidance and support
  • Review and draft all court required filings
  • Draft pleadings, correspondence, and memorandums
  • Research, drafting of briefs, negotiations, and hearings
  • Assess legal risk in documentation paperwork or court filings
  • Perform litigation of any real estates, wills, estate planning ,guardianships and probate
  • Anticipate legal risks
  • Support business development efforts, including but not limited to, meeting with prospective clients and evaluating their needs, as well as, participating in networking activities in order to build relationships with referral sources
  • Apply knowledge of the law, functions, strategies, and processes to provide services, solutions, and advice to the clients or firm serves
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with clients to ensure retention and referrals
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative and supportive working relationship with all staff, legal and non-legal
  • Develop and model an understanding of the firm’s philosophy, values, culture, and infrastructure

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in wills, estate planning, and probate, and guardianship, as well as, residential and commercial law.
  • A real interest in helping people
  • Experience in transactional, litigation, and court-supervised matters
  • Excellent legal research, writing and advocacy skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CLIO, and other database programs
  • Proficiency with efiling
  • Thorough understanding of the probate system in Travis and Williamson Counties
  • Clear and effective drafting skills
  • Ensures high quality of work by taking full responsibility for all work-product assigned and or delegated, as well as all internal, external, and court deadlines
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines
  • Willingness to be proactive and take ownership of projects and assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively solve complex problems
