Job Description
The Safety Manager is a health and safety professional who provides site safety leadership and monitors the work activity of employees at location/jobsite for compliance with governmental regulations (OSHA/MSHA), as well as policies and procedures. The prospective candidate should have a working knowledge of all applicable regulatory standards and regulations.
Qualifications
3-5 years of progressive health and safety field experience is required for this position.
Prospective candidates preferably possess an associate degree in occupational health and safety OR a related field OR a nationally recognized certificate in safety training (STSC, CHST, etc.).
Ability to build trust and confidence with the management team.
Strategic thinking and leadership skills.
Ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
Thorough knowledge of applicable regulation (OSHA, MSHA).
OSHA 30 preferred.
Basic to intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Responsibilities
Conduct field-level risk assessments to determine how risk could be reduced or eliminated.
Conduct job observations and providing feedback to employees on performance with corrective action if warranted.
Conduct site inspections to observe compliance with all federal, state and company policies.
Conduct incident investigations to establish root cause and corrective actions to eliminate future recurrence.
Prepare health and safety strategies that enhance workplace safety and health.
Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce workplace hazards, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
Facilitate a work environment that supports a safe culture that benefits employees both on and off the job.
Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as OSHA/MSHA regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and proper use of safety equipment.
Perform safety audits and facility audits; inspect machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, to ensure safety regulation compliance.
To be a team member and to actively assist field personnel in resolving workplace safety issues.
Investigate industrial accidents, near miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine cause and install preventive measures and manage return-to-work activities and provide all case management associated with the incident.
Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
Coordinate employee safety programs to determine their effectiveness including a review of short- and long-term strategic safety planning and development.
Work within company policy as outlined in the Sure Steel Environmental and Safety Manual, Employee Handbook and in compliance with the Sure Steel policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
