Color Specialist

The Color Specialist is responsible for the evaluation of all incoming fingerprint printed material and creation of all OBF color assets from either press sheets or incoming print color data. The Color Specialist's core functions are creating color proofing profiles, conversion profiles, and any other color data needed to support internal and external client's color needs.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Analyze all incoming fingerprint or characterization press sheets for defects and uniformity
- Measure color charts to generate proofing profiles and production assets
- Create gray balance adjustment curves and back them out of the characterization data
- Determine highlight bump and/or push needed for highlights
- Create accurate proofing profiles to be used on the GMG ColorProof RIP
- Create proofing standards from averaged proofreads to be used by in GMG ProofControl
- Create conversion profiles for all rendering intents and appropriate black treatments
- Assist Color Retouchers with color conversion issues
- Create all color data required for myCOLORs in the appropriate file formats
- Create plate curves for use when production is making 1 bit plate files
- Generate profile/print condition reports from printer fingerprints
Qualifications Include:
- Sufficient understanding of color profiles, how they work, how to assess for issues
- Proficient use of Macintosh and Windows operating systems
- Knowledge of spectrophotometers, colorimetry, and measurement conditions
- Ability to troubleshoot root cause and best course of action when issues arise
- Knowledge of the following color and print software tools: ColorLogic, GMG ColorProof, GMG ColorServer, ColorThink and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of large format proofing devices such as: Epson Px000 series, Epson S80600
- Bachelor's Degree in Printing, Graphic Communications, or related field; or equivalent experience
