Job Summary and Qualifications

Performs any combination of the following tasks before, during, and after surgery to assist surgical team: Places equipment and supplies in operating room and arranges instruments, according to instructions. Assists team members to place and position patient on OR table. Scrubs arms and hands and dons gown and gloves. Aids sterile team to don gowns and gloves. Passes instruments and supplies to surgeon and performs other tasks as directed by surgeon during operation. Assists with dressings on patient following surgery. Counts sponges, needles, and instruments according to policy. Takes part in Time-out and maintains sterile field throughout procedure. Performs any other duties as assigned by leadership. 

What you will do in this role:

• You will create and maintain the sterile field. 
• You will prepare the Operating Room: set up sterilized instruments, position patient and assist others with gloves and gowns.
• You will assist the surgical team as needed: pass instruments, fluids and supplies, hold retractors and prepare equipment. 
• You will provide proper counting techniques for all instruments, sponges and tools. 
• You will assist with transport and transfer of patients. 
• You will apply safety procedures and principles in all actions. 

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• (CST) Certified Surgical Technologist
• High School Graduate / GED
• 1 year of experience as a surgical tech Required
