Job Description
Position Objective: Provide services as a Bioinformatics Scientist in support of the overall functions of the Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Molecular HIV Host Interactions Section (MHHIS), within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
Duties and Responsibilities: - Provide programming and troubleshooting support and dissemination of research data.
- Perform computation on research data analysis.
- Work with staff on scientific programming and experimental design.
- Provide statistical support/analysis on research data.
- Experienced and proficient in computer languages, include but not limited to R, Python, Perl, Java and UNIX/Linux.
- Experienced and proficient with high-performance computing cluster and cloud computing.
- Strong ability to utilize existing analytical algorithms, write production level code, and develop new bioinformatic pipelines to analyze NextGen deep sequencing, Affymetrix, microbiome, and metabolomics data sets to study alterations in gene expression and biological pathways by pathogens, substances and therapeutic agents.
- Experienced and proficient with IgSEQ , a custom program suite which queries IMGT/V-QUEST and IMGT/Junction Analysis; separates immunoglobulin heavy chain sequences based on their quality, functionality and somatic hypermutation; and performs analysis and summary at the level of individual data set.
Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in related discipline required.
- Minimum 3 years of related work experience is required.
Minimum Qualifications: - Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
