Job Overview
The Backhaul Coordinator/Freight Broker acts as a key liaison between shippers, carriers, and internal operations teams to ensure the efficient, profitable, and timely transportation of goods. This role combines relationship management, negotiation, and coordination with strong organizational and communication skills.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with shippers, carriers, and internal departments.
· Negotiate rates with carriers and shippers to secure profitable loads.
· Respond to customer inquiries and emails in a timely and professional manner.
· Provide exceptional customer service and proactive problem resolution.
· Schedule, book, and confirm customer appointments for pickup and delivery.
· Coordinate and monitor shipments, ensuring on-time pickup and delivery.
· Track carrier movements and load statuses; resolve issues that arise during transit.
· Assist in securing backhauls to maximize efficiency.
· Manage load documentation, contracts, and ensure compliance with federal and company regulations.
· Screen potential carriers to verify they meet Tucker Freight Lines’ standards and requirements.
· Communicate with Billing and Payroll regarding driver paperwork discrepancies.
· Collaborate with IT to maintain accurate load details and customer information in the TMS.
· Monitor market trends and adjust pricing strategies when necessary.
· Utilize technology appropriately to support risk mitigation and operational efficiency.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Proven experience in freight brokerage, coordination, logistics, or transportation operations.
· Proficiency in computer systems and applications (TMS, Microsoft Office Suite).
· Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Must be a self-starter with a positive, “can-do” attitude.
· Ability to work independently while embracing teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
